Background :
Eli Lilly and Company and MetLife have introduced a direct billing model for obesity care for eligible Lilly employees in the UAE as part of a broader workplace health initiative focused on long-term well-being and preventive care.
The programme combines insurance coverage, structured treatment pathways and clinical oversight to support employees living with obesity. Healthcare provider Mediclinic Middle East will oversee clinical services, while Marsh supported the health and benefits strategy behind the initiative.
The companies said the programme aims to improve employee well-being, workforce engagement and long-term productivity through access to evidence-based obesity care. The initiative also reflects growing attention toward preventive healthcare and chronic disease management in the UAE.
Under the model, eligible employees will receive support through structured care plans that include medical assessments, treatment monitoring and follow-up services. Mediclinic said the programme has been designed to ensure safe prescribing practices and coordinated patient care across its healthcare network.
Lilly and MetLife said the collaboration aligns with national healthcare priorities focused on prevention, early intervention and better long-term health outcomes. They added that the initiative is intended to support sustainable healthcare access while helping employers strengthen workforce resilience.
Healthcare experts involved in the programme said obesity remains a major health concern linked to several chronic conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
The companies said the initiative reflects a wider shift among employers in the UAE toward employee benefit programmes focused on prevention, wellness and long-term healthcare support.
