Background
Wellpharma, the subsidiary of Mubadala Bio, has introduced new hemodialysis products at one of its Abu Dhabi-based manufacturing units, which is the first-of-its-kind production of hemodialysis concentrate solutions in the UAE.
The introduction features eight hospital-quality hemodialysis solutions that are specifically aimed at performing dialysis on individuals suffering from kidney failure. Dialysis is essentially a technique employed by those individuals whose kidneys have become incapable of filtering the blood effectively. During the procedure, dialysis solutions help restore electrolyte balance and remove waste products from the bloodstream.
Dr Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of Mubadala’s UAE Investments Platform and Chairman of Mubadala Bio, said the company had continued to make significant progress in advancing life sciences capabilities since Mubadala Bio’s launch last year. He said the introduction of locally manufactured hemodialysis solutions marked an important milestone given the critical role these products play in the healthcare ecosystem, and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening access to essential medical products.
Dr Essam Mohamed, Group CEO of Mubadala Bio, said the launch was a significant milestone for the company and the wider UAE healthcare sector, noting that local production would ensure a more consistent supply of critical therapies for dialysis patients while reinforcing capabilities in specialised hospital-based treatments.
Hamad Almarzooqi, Group Deputy CEO of Mubadala Bio, said strengthening local manufacturing capabilities remained central to Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s ambition to become a leading global life sciences hub, adding that the new launch was an important step toward building stronger domestic capabilities across the pharmaceutical value chain.
