Background:

In a major move to improve healthcare in Africa, Aster Volunteers has launched its 67th Mobile Medical Unit to help remote and underserved communities in Chad.

The project, announced at a ceremony at the TAJ Hotel in Business Bay, Dubai, aims to strengthen Chad’s basic healthcare system and provide free medical services to people with little or no access to hospitals.

The solar-powered mobile clinic has telehealth facilities, consultation rooms, testing equipment, a medicine counter, and areas for health education, taking essential care straight to people who need it most. The project was created in partnership with Chad’s Ministry of Health and backed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support long-term cooperation.

The event was attended by Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare; Oumar Teguen Idibei Berde, Ambassador of Chad to the UAE; Mr. Yousif Mohammed Elnour Shata, Adviser to Chad’s Health Minister; and senior officials from Aster DM Healthcare and the Consulate of Chad in Dubai.

At the event, Dr. Azad Moopen shared that the new mobile unit marks another step in Aster Volunteers’ mission to expand its support across Africa. Ambassador Oumar Teguen Idibei Berde noted that the partnership will help improve healthcare services for many people in Chad who currently lack proper medical access.

Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Services (AVMMS) is the flagship humanitarian programme of Aster DM Healthcare, which has so far reached over 2.6 million people through its fleet of mobile clinics operating across India, the Middle East, and Africa.

The programme currently operates in 19 countries, benefiting over 7 million people with the support of more than 95,000 volunteers. Aster plans to launch over 75 mobile units by March 2025, as part of its mission to make quality healthcare available to everyone.
