Background
Egypt and Saudi Arabia are preparing to launch a joint initiative to increase local production of essential medical supplies, with a focus on hemodialysis filters. The move comes after Saudi Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, visited the Wadi El-Nile Stio plant for hemodialysis filter and dialyzer manufacturing in Cairo during his official trip to Egypt.
The Saudi delegation reviewed the plant’s advanced production lines, which manufacture one of the region’s most important medical products used for kidney-treatment procedures. Officials at the facility explained the full production process and the technology used, noting that all operations follow global quality standards and meet the requirements of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).
Talks during the visit focused on future industrial cooperation between the plant and the Saudi Ministry of Industry. Both sides discussed setting up local hemodialysis-filter manufacturing in Saudi Arabia using Egyptian technical expertise. The project supports Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to grow local industries, and matches Egypt’s effort to increase domestic pharmaceutical production and reduce reliance on imported medical supplies.
EDA Vice Chairperson Tamer F. said the Authority fully supports joint industrial investments, adding that deeper cooperation with Saudi Arabia will strengthen Arab medical and pharmaceutical security.
Al-Mudaifer praised Egypt’s strong industrial capabilities and said they can contribute directly to Saudi Arabia’s localization plans. Wadi El-Nile Stio Chairperson Amr Abdel-Razek called the visit an important step toward building a competitive regional medical-technology sector.
Officials from both nations agreed to increase technical coordination, develop a clear plan for localizing production, and exchange knowledge to expand regional medical manufacturing capacity.
