The remarks were made during a meeting in Cairo with the Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Jean Kaseya. The meeting was also attended by Hisham Stait, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA).

Abdelatty welcomed the closer cooperation between Egypt and the Africa CDC, saying it supports stronger health and pharmaceutical collaboration across Africa. He added that healthcare is a key driver of sustainable development on the continent and remains a top priority for Egypt.

The foreign minister highlighted Egypt’s role in organizing capacity-building programs through the Ministry of Health and Population, in partnership with the Africa CDC. He said these initiatives are designed to improve medical readiness and strengthen healthcare systems across African countries.

Abdelatty said the Africa Health ExCon exhibition, held with the Africa CDC, has become an important platform that brings together leaders from the health and pharmaceutical sectors to exchange ideas and cooperate.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working more closely with the Africa CDC, particularly in responding swiftly to health emergencies. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide medical support, vaccines, emergency equipment, and skilled medical and technical experts to assist the center when needed.

The minister also reviewed key presidential health initiatives launched under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, including the national hepatitis C elimination program and the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative. He expressed Egypt’s openness to expanding access to its medicines and health services to benefit African countries.

For his part, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya praised Egypt’s advanced capabilities in the health and pharmaceutical sectors and commended its leading role in supporting public health systems across Africa. He said he looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with Egypt to enhance health security throughout the continent.
