Background
Kuwait’s Medical Responsibility Authority has claimed first place in the Arab world in the Leadership, Governance and Continuous Improvement category at the seventh edition of the Arab Health Excellence Initiative.
The Authority secured the top position with a score of 95%, earning the platinum classification, the highest available under the initiative’s evaluation framework. The assessment measured leadership efficiency, governance quality, and the sustainability of development practices against regional and international benchmarks.
The initiative, organised by the Arab Federation of Hospitals in cooperation with international healthcare and institutional excellence bodies, drew 323 applications from 10 Arab countries. Only 45 institutions received recognition across all categories, reflecting the competitive nature of the evaluation process.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Health credited Sheikh Dr Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah, the founding president and former head of the Authority, for building an institutional culture grounded in transparency, governance, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Sheikh Dr Salman said the recognition reflected years of consistent effort rather than a single achievement.
Established under Kuwait’s Law No 70 of 2020, the Medical Responsibility Authority reviews complaints related to medical errors through specialised committees and objective procedures designed to protect both patients and healthcare practitioners.
Officials said the award strengthens confidence in Kuwait’s healthcare governance system and reinforces the country’s standing as a regional leader in institutional excellence.
