Background

Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the health condition of more than 1.7 million Hajj pilgrims remains stable, with no major public health concerns reported during this year’s pilgrimage season.

Officials shared the update during the final Hajj security and health briefing held in the last week of May. Authorities stated that the country’s healthcare and security systems continue to operate efficiently through advanced planning, modern technologies and coordinated field operations.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi said more than 1.2 million healthcare services had been provided to pilgrims so far. These included over 41,000 emergency visits, nearly 5,000 hospital admissions and around 50,000 primary healthcare and urgent care consultations. Medical teams also conducted 29 open-heart surgeries, 251 cardiac catheterization procedures and 337 surgeries.

The ministry also handled more than one million multilingual calls through its health support centre. Officials treated 466 heat exhaustion cases under approved medical protocols, allowing pilgrims to continue their rituals safely.

According to security officials, AI and smart operation rooms were critical in managing the crowd and any emergency situations. Security teams were able to monitor crowds in real time and coordinate security activities at the same time within the holy sites.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that the Nusuk card system recorded more than four million electronic scans, helping improve verification and crowd movement. Transport authorities added that the Mashaer metro transported over 961,000 pilgrims, while the Haramain High Speed Railway carried more than 830,000 worshippers through over 5,300 trips during the Hajj period.
