EURneffy

Prime Highlights :

  • EURneffy removes the needle barrier in allergic emergencies, letting anyone — trained or not — administer epinephrine fast.
  • The EDE chief said the approval signals how quickly the UAE can move to bring in therapies that save lives at critical moments.

Key Facts :

  • ALK Abelló is the developer of EURneffy, a nasal epinephrine spray built for rapid, needle-free emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions.
  • The UAE is the first country in the Middle East region to grant regulatory approval for a nasal adrenaline spray for allergic emergencies.

Background :

The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has approved EURneffy, a nasal epinephrine spray that treats severe allergic reactions in emergencies. With this move, the UAE becomes the first country in the region to clear the therapy for use. The spray comes in 1 mg and 2 mg strengths and is suitable for adults and children aged four and above, with doses determined by body weight.

ALK Abelló developed EURneffy as a needle-free way to deliver epinephrine during an allergic emergency. For many patients and bystanders, injections are hard to administer under pressure — needle anxiety is real, and panic makes it worse. The nasal spray cuts through that problem by letting anyone, trained or not, act fast when symptoms strike.

Speed matters in these situations. A delayed dose of epinephrine can turn a manageable reaction into a fatal one.

EURneffy’s simple design means fewer barriers stand between a patient and the treatment they need.

The EDE first came across the product during a visit to Denmark and pushed to bring it to the UAE quickly. Dr

Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the EDE, said the decision reflects the country’s drive to bring in therapies that make a real difference at critical moments. She noted that the approval also signals how quickly the UAE’s regulatory system can move when patient outcomes are at stake, and how ready the country is to lead on healthcare innovation in the region.
