Background:

The UAE has launched Bayan, a platform that brings all health data together in one place. Introduced at the World Health Expo (WHX), Bayan collects data on hospitals, clinics, and government agencies and provides a clear picture of the health situation in the nation.

Health data was diffused before Bayan, and it was difficult for the officials to have a complete picture. The solution addressed this by integrating more than 300 health indicators and 45 interactive dashboards. It monitors such key domains as births and deaths, vaccinations, the number of beds in hospitals, the health personnel, and the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Alya Zaid Harbi, Director of the Statistics and Research Center at MoHAP, described Bayan as a tool that unites data from different sectors. “It is a central platform where historical and live data come together,” she said. The system uses information from medical records, national surveys, and even non-health sources like education and traffic statistics. It also monitors the number of medical students, graduates, and projected workforce needs.

Bayan goes beyond storing data, offering insights through GIS mapping to spot disease hotspots, workforce gaps, and plan future healthcare needs. It also tracks major diseases like cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and disabilities.

Dr. Alya said that building Bayan took over three years, with careful checks to make sure the data is accurate. The system combines records from 2005 with live updates to give a full picture of the nation’s health. “It helps us plan, make decisions, and set priorities based on real evidence,” she said.

With Bayan, UAE health authorities now have a single, reliable source of health information, making it easier to plan and improve healthcare, an innovation that will shape the country’s healthcare future.
