Background:

The United Arab Emirates is set to boost its defence, space, and healthcare sectors, following a Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

During the meeting on Sunday, the Cabinet approved a series of national strategies and more than 120 international agreements aimed at enhancing the country’s resilience and global standing. Sheikh Mohammed praised the “high defensive spirit” of the armed forces and highlighted the sense of responsibility shown by citizens, residents, and institutions across the UAE.

He noted that national institutions and defence forces were operating with “complete efficiency and professionalism,” while the private sector continued to respond to developments with accountability.

A major announcement from the meeting was the adoption of a five-year strategy for the UAE’s space sector, which is currently valued at over AED 44 billion. The sector involves more than 170 organisations and has launched 30 satellites to date. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the country’s ongoing space ambitions, which include programmes for Emirati astronauts, a mission to Mars, and plans for future missions to Venus and the asteroid belt.

Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE’s development is based on competitiveness, flexibility, and openness. He added that the country would “return stronger” after facing challenges, showing continued progress and resilience.
