Background
The UAE plans to launch a new national health care system that will facilitate greater access to health services and contribute to improved healthcare delivery within the country. It involves the creation of an overarching model that ensures quality healthcare as well as greater interconnectedness between all the emirates in terms of this aspect.
The decision was made by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who requested authorities in the third week of May to implement the new model. It will be focused on developing a complete national health insurance system as well as meeting other health-related objectives on a long-term basis.
According to the authorities, the proposed model will prioritize the improvement of the standards of health care provision as well as promote its preventive nature, technology-based approach, and innovations. In addition to these aspects, greater optimization of the current healthcare resources will be prioritized.
It is too early to predict how this insurance system will work. Currently, one may say that its implementation affects only the citizens of the country, while no additional details have been provided to residents.
Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, the UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, explained that the new framework marks an important step towards creating a stronger and more adaptable healthcare system.
The minister further noted that the country continues to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure through digital platforms, investments in service quality, and wider access to medical care. The proposed model also seeks to create stronger coordination across healthcare services and improve long-term health outcomes.
