Background:

Roche Diagnostics Middle East has launched Accu-Chek SmartGuide, a new system to improve diabetes management in the region. It can alert users up to 30 minutes before low blood sugar events, helping patients take action on time.

The launch was marked by a high-profile event attended by senior health officials and international representatives. Among the speakers were Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector in the UAE, Arthur Mattli, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE and Bahrain, Guido Sander, General Manager of Roche Diagnostics Middle East, and Dr Abdullah Mohammed Arabe, Director of Diabetes Centers and Diabetic Foot Centres at Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health.

In his keynote, Dr. Al Rand highlighted the UAE’s focus on preventive healthcare and improving public health as part of Health Vision 2030.

Already available in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, the solution enables users to monitor glucose trends and anticipate changes over the next 30 minutes, two hours, and overnight. This forward-looking insight allows people with diabetes to manage daily routines with greater confidence and fewer disruptions.

Roche said the system is designed to help people manage their diabetes better, reduce stress, and stick to their treatment plans. Keeping blood sugar levels stable may also reduce the risk of long-term problems such as heart disease, kidney damage, nerve damage, vision loss, and mental health issues.

The company is also working to make Accu-Chek SmartGuide available in more Middle Eastern countries to improve diabetes care and patients’ quality of life.
