Background
Response Plus Medical Services, a subsidiary of Response Plus Holding PJSC and the region’s leading pre-hospital care and emergency medical services provider, has put out summer safety guidelines to help protect thousands of outdoor workers from heat-related illnesses.
The move comes as temperatures climb across the UAE and the country’s annual midday work break kicks in. The guidelines cover construction sites, logistics hubs, energy facilities and other outdoor workplaces during the hottest months of the year, pushing employers and workers to pick up simple preventive habits built around early detection, hydration and teamwork.
Response Plus Medical says heat exhaustion and heat stroke rarely hit without warning. Early signs include excessive thirst, dizziness, muscle cramps, unusual fatigue, irritability, confusion or trouble keeping balance, and workers are urged to get help before symptoms worsen.
A key recommendation calls for a buddy system, where colleagues check on each other through the workday. Workers are also told to watch dehydration through signs like urine colour, with darker shades pointing to a need for more water.
Employers are told to schedule tough tasks such as heavy lifting and scaffolding work during cooler morning hours where possible. Response Plus Medical also suggests enough sleep, less caffeine and staying hydrated before each shift.
For serious cases, confusion, loss of consciousness or lack of sweating despite extreme heat should be treated as medical emergencies needing immediate cooling and urgent care.
Founded in 2010, Response Plus Holding runs the region’s largest medical vehicle fleet, with more than 350 ambulances, and has conducted over 1.6 million training sessions for healthcare and non-healthcare professionals.
