Key Facts

  • Thumbay University Hospital is part of Thumbay Group, one of the largest private healthcare and education conglomerates in the UAE.
  • The institute uses advanced technologies including robotic rehabilitation, Ekso Bionics exoskeletons, and neuronavigation systems.

Background

Thumbay University Hospital has inaugurated its Institute of Neurosciences, a specialised centre focused on diagnosing, treating, and managing complex conditions of the brain, spine, and nervous system.

Thumbay Group Founder and President Dr Thumbay Moideen presided over the inauguration, joined by senior healthcare leaders from across the Thumbay network. Dr Abdul Karim Msaddi, Consultant Chief Neurosurgeon and Chairman of the ArabSpine Course Diploma and Dubai International Spine Conference, attended as Chief Guest.

Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division at Thumbay Group, stated that neurological disorders demand precision, speed, and multidisciplinary expertise, adding that the institute brings all of these together under one roof, supported by technology and a patient-first approach, representing a major step in advancing neuroscience care across the UAE and the wider region.

The institute brings together neurosurgeons, neurologists, interventional radiologists, neuro-technicians, and rehabilitation specialists. The institute conducts research for multiple neurological disorders, which include stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, migraines and sleep disorders and advanced diagnostic methods, which include EEG and EMG, nerve conduction studies and neuro-imaging.

The institute operates surgical procedures to treat brain tumors and vascular disorders, brain injuries, spinal conditions, and pediatric neurological diseases through its use of microsurgical methods and minimally invasive procedures, which include neuronavigation systems and intraoperative neuromonitoring.

The institute provides patients with advanced neuro-rehabilitation methods, which use robotic therapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, gait and motion analysis and Ekso Bionics exoskeleton-assisted rehabilitation to help them regain their ability to move, their independence and their overall life quality.
